Skeets was born and raised on a farm in Rector,
Arkansas. He learned how to play the guitar when he was
a kid. His musical career was interrupted by World War
II, and he went into the US Army; he served with the
Medical 69th General Hospital that served in North
Africa, India and Okinawa.
During the mid-1950s Skeets recorded for Capitol
Records. He was also writing songs at that time. In
1952, he had the biggest hit on the song, “Don’t Let The
Stars Get In Your Eyes.”
He was a headliner on two major shows, The Hometown
Jamboree, and The Town Hall Party. Both shows were
held in California and were very popular.
