Any musician in Nashville has heard of
Charlie McCoy. A mainstay in Music City since the ‘60s,
Charlie has played on dozens of hit records, including
work for such legends as Elvis Presley, Simon &
Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and many
more. [Charlie played on my album in 1969, “Hey There,
It’s Me Again” – Dusty Owens]
But the work that has distinguished this
world-class harmonica player is contained on more than
two-dozen albums that Charlie has released over the past
3 decades.
Charlie is known all over the world. He
performs every year in Europe and Asia, most frequently
France, Japan, and Denmark. His European backup band is
made up of Europe’s finest musicians and is second to
none.
Charlie served as the music director for
the hit syndicated TV show, “Hee Haw” for 19 years, in
addition to directing music for the “True Value Country
Showdown,” the “Arthritis Telethon,” and various other
television specials.
Charlie was given the “Musician” award
from R.O.P.E. in 1994, elected to the German-American
Country Music Federation Hall of Fame in 1998, and to
the Hall of Fame of the North American Country Music
Association International in 2000. In March 1995,
Charlie joined the staff band of the “Music City
Tonight” show on TNN, and stayed until the show ended in
December of that year.
