Johnny Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas on
February 26, 1932. He recorded for Sam Phillips of Sun
Records in Memphis Tennessee, and his first record was “Hey
Porter” backed by “Cry! Cry! Cry!,” which was released in
1955. Cash developed his “boom chicka boom” sound with Luther
Perkins (lead guitar) and Marshall Grant (bass). Later, Cash
recorded for Columbia Records. He has recorded over 1,500
songs and they can be found on about 500 albums, if you count
only American and European releases. More of his albums (45)
remain in print today than most artists make. Cash is the
youngest person ever chosen for the Country Music Hall of Fame
and the only person ever selected for the Country and Rock
Music hall of Fame, until 1998, when Elvis Presley was
inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His most
well-known songs were “I Walk The Line” and “Folsom Prison
Blues.”
