Story Behind The Song … “I Really Don’t Want To Know”

February 2, 2010

According to Howard Lee Barnes, Eddy Arnold’s 1954 hit “I Really Don’t Want To Know” came to mind after he thought about people finding the right person to love.

Barnes commented, “I wrote “I Really Don’t Want To Know” in 1949. I had been thinking about just how few persons seem to find the right or the perfect lover, or at least until they have been held and kissed by so many?  That’s where I came up with the opening line, “how many arms have held you?”

Eddy Arnold’s RCA Victor single, “I Really Don’t Want To Know” entered the country music charts January 9th, 1954 and made it to number one. It was his 54th charted song and was on the country charts for 37 weeks.
