According to
Loretta Lynn, her 1968 hit song, “Fist City,” came from
a true slice of life.
Loretta
explained, “That song was written about a woman who lived
about five miles from us in Nashville, Tennessee. And
she was after my husband. There was no doubt about it. She
would show up at the clubs where I was playing but she wasn’t
there to listen to me sing. She was there after my husband.
And “Fist City”
was written as a message to that woman—to lay off chasing my
husband or get ready for a fight.”
