Jake was born on April 12, 1976, in San Angelo,
Texas, but soon after his father Tommy Hooker relocated the
family to Pecos, Texas. Jake’s earliest attempts at singing
and playing guitar started at age seven in his father’s
popular honky-tonk dance band. Growing up in West Texas, Jake
was heavily influenced by the musical sounds that his father
performed on a regular basis in his band. If we think back to
that time we can recall such traditional musical luminaries as
Ray Price, Johnny Bush, Faron Young, Johnny Paycheck, Darrell
McCall, Curtis Potter, and of course the sounds of Bob Wills’
Texas Playboys being regulars on the radio waves. Tommy Hooker
was influenced by all of these great vocalists and shared with
Jake his passion for the true honky-tonk dance music that he
regularly performed live with his popular dance band. It is no
surprise that Jake’s biggest influence would be his father,
who introduced Jake to every one of these legends.
At the tender young age of thirteen, Jake began performing
professional engagements by singing and playing bass guitar in
his own band for birthday celebrations, private parties,
junior high and high school functions, plus many other special
events throughout west Texas. His vocal style and stage
presence continues to develop, but always in the traditional
honky-tonk dance style of music.
Early in 1998, Jake
was performing in the Historic Stockyards area of North Fort
Worth, Texas when Steve Reed, President of SOUTHLAND RECORDS®,
Inc. had the opportunity to hear Jake Hooker for the first
time. First impressions really are powerful!! Steve was so
impressed by Jake’s maturity and professional presentation
that he immediately offered Jake a premier spot on the
SOUTHLAND RECORDS® artist roster. Since that date, Jake has
released for the label three strong selling compact disc
selections and has additional releases scheduled in 2003.
Jake's touring schedule with his band Jake Hooker and The
Outsiders continues to expand as does his ever growing fan

Jake’s interests and hobbies outside of recording and
performing music fall mostly in the cowboy and rodeo events
category. He loves to watch all the events, but he also enjoys
participating in roping and team roping events. Jake married
Shelia in 1998 and she also enjoys traveling on the road and
being an active participate in Jake’s growing career.
